Russian president Vladimir Putin put in a quiet appearance at the opening ceremony of the world figure skating championships Sunday in Moscow, amid tight security.
The championships begin Monday with the qualifying for the men’s free skate and the pairs short programme.
187 skaters, including China’s top pair Shen Xue and Zhao Hongbo, are in the Russian capital for world championships that take place during a week where International Olympic Committee inspectors will be in town to examine Moscow’s bid for the 2012 Games. |
