Gong Luming, head coach of China’ s women’s basketball national team, and an assistant coach might be dismissed, anonymous source told Xinhua on Tuesday.
The Chinese National Basketball Administration called a new conference on Wednesday in Beijing, when Gong and assistant coach Chen Dechun are expected to step down the posts.
Gong and Chen, who led China to a disappointing ninth places in the Athens Olympic Games in August, had been informed the decision Tuesday afternoon, the source said.
Tom Maher, former head coach of the New Zealand national team, is the top candidate for the replacement of Gong.
New Zealand saw off China 79-77 in the preliminary round and finished eighth in Athens. |
