Chinese runners won gold and silver medals at the Seoul International Marathon.
Zhou Chunxiu took the women’s first place with a time of two hours 23 minutes and 24 seconds, but failed to break the race record of two hours 23 minutes and 17 seconds set by another Chinese runner Zhang Shujin in 2003.
China’s Wei Yanan finished second.
In men’s group, William Kipsang of Kenya took the title with a time of two hours eight minutes and 53 seconds.
Kipsang said it took him nearly half an hour to find his pace amidst the early cold.
Kipsang outpaced Gert Thys of South Africa in the 31st kilometer for a 3km stretch that saw the two run neck-and-neck until the Kenyan broke free and sped to the finish line to collect his US$80,000 prize. |
